At San Diego Comic-Con 2014, a lucky six thousand fans were treated to the first look at Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice - when director Zack Snyder debuted a 30-second teaser. In the sneak peek, Ben Affleck’s armored Batman fired-up the bat signal on a rainy rooftop, illuminating the Man of Steel floating in the sky above him (with angry red eyes). The footage may have been brief but left a very strong impression on the Hall H crowd – with fans outside of the room (and around the world) desperately searching for leaked footage and/or hoping that Snyder would release the tease through official channels.
Close to a year after SDCC 2014, most DC Comics and movie fans have yet to actually see the iconic heroes together in full live-action; relying on static, albeit breathtaking, portrait reveals to whet their appetites. However, with the Avengers set to assemble (again) for Age of Ultron, Warner Bros. is finally set to debut footage from Batman V Superman (and, hopefully, steal a bit of Disney’s thunder in the process). While fans will have to wait for the full Dawn of Justice trailer, set to premiere ahead of theAvengers 2 international launch, Snyder just gave us a welcome trailer preview.
Like most teaser previews, the Batman V Superman footage is brief – very brief in fact – but hints that the upcoming trailer won’t simply be a rehash of the Comic-Con video and, instead, will feature new footage. There’s always the possibility that the full trailer will close with the SDCC face-off between Batman and Superman, or that fans will get to see the video clip down the line (prior to release), but it’s exciting to know that Warner Bros. isn’t simply resting on hype for the 2016 team-up movie – and are including new video.
Of course, given the slick (and downright artistic) hero (and villain) character portraits the studio has released so far, it’s apparent that Warner Bros. knows they’ve got a lofty bar to hit – between high expectations for a Batman and Superman (and Wonder Woman) movie coupled with the overall quality of competing films in the comic book genre.

To that end, the studio didn’t just cut a straightforward teaser (read: voiceover narration and the Batman V Superman: Dawn of Justice logo) – if the preview is any indication, the full trailer will (at the very least) provide fans a clearer look at the new costume designs but will, likely, reveal much more. After all, musician/composer Junkie XL did promise the trailer (and score) would be “awesome.”
In just 5 seconds (of a rumored 2 minute, six second trailer), Snyder manages to provide fans with:
A full-colored look at Ben Affleck’s Batman cowl
A look at the more brightly-colored Superman suit Henry Cavill will be sporting.
It’s worth pointing out that the Superman suit looks to be a recycled shot of the rotating reveal used in Man of Steel marketing, re-colored to reflect the more vibrant hues of the new suit. Regardless, the teaser is simply intended to get fans excited, with the actual reveals saved for the trailer itself. No doubt, the tease should make fans (as well as hold-out skeptics) excited to see what Snyder is going to debut on Monday.

With a year before the film hits theaters, the new preview, and full trailer, are only the first steps in what is sure to be one of the biggest movie marketing campaigns in Hollywood history. DC and Warner Bros. have big plans for the Justice League and its members – and there’s plenty of evidence to indicate the studio is investing heavily in ensuring their budding DC movie universe comes out the gate strong with Batman V Superman.
