Jose Mourinho remains confident that Eden Hazard will commit his long-term future to Chelsea, quipping that the only stumbling block is buying a new pen.
Goal understands that the Belgian has been in talks with the Blues since June and is ready to pen a new long-term deal which will make him the highest-paid player in the club’s history.
Mourinho has continually stressed his optimism that a deal will be concluded shortly, saying in December that he was “never worried” about the prospect of Hazard leaving.
But the former Lille attacker is still yet to officially extend his stay at Stamford Bridge, though Mourinho is convinced it is just a matter of time.
“I am buying a nice pen,” joked the Portuguese.
“I need a bit of time to go to Sloane Street and buy a proper pen. I just need time to buy the pen and after that I think there is not a long time to go!”
Hazard has been in excellent form for Chelsea this season, scoring nine goals and bagging five assists in 24 Premier League appearances, while he has also struck twice in the Champions League.
