Seattle Seahawks head coach Pete Carroll confirmed on Monday that star cornerback Richard Sherman
will have surgery to repair a torn ulnar collateral ligament in his
elbow. Sherman suffered the injury during a collision with teammate Kam Chancellor
during the team's NFC championship game win over the Green Bay Packers.
Sherman still practiced in full and played in Super Bowl XLIX on
Sunday.
Speaking of Chancellor, the standout safety could also go under the knife after he suffered a knee injury during practice last week. Carroll also confirmed that cornerback Jeremy Lane suffered a "significant" broken arm after intercepting a Tom Brady pass in the first quarter on Sunday and will need surgery.
That's not all.
Safety Earl Thomas -- another key piece -- was nursing a shoulder injury before the Super Bowl. Now, it seems he wants a second opinion, but in all likelihood, the injury he suffered during the NFC championship game will require surgery.
That leaves cornerback Byron Maxwell and backup corner Tharold Simon -- who was abused by the Patriots on Sunday -- as the only healthy members of the Legion of Boom. And Maxwell will become a free agent this offseason.
Sad times in Seattle, indeed.
