China executes teacher who sexually abused 26 students

A primary school teacher who raped and sexually abused 26 of his students has been executed in China.


 Li Jishun had committed the crimes between 2011 and 2012 while teaching at at a village school in Gansu province. He preyed on pupils aged 4 to 11 who were young and timid,” according to a statement by the Supreme People’s Court reported by local media.

The court  said there have been more than 7,000 child sex abuse cases in recent years and that the trend is on the rise.

Considering the harm Li caused to the girls concerned and the extremely negative social impact, Li was given the heaviest punishment, said a judge from the Supreme People’s Court.


The Supreme People’s Court also published the details of four other cases involving sexual abuse of minors. In one case, a man raped five girls in a school dormitory. He was given a death sentence reprieved for two years.
