Uganda's Health minister has said that Ugandans are so immoral such that they prefer sex more than lunch meals and that's why HIV infections are on the rise.

Uganda’s Minister for Ethics and Integrity, Fr Simon Lokodo, has claimed HIV infections in the country are on the rise because of sexual immortality.

“Instead of people going to have lunch, they prefer sex as afternoon (meals),” he said.

Fr Lokodo was speaking as the chief guest during the International Candle Light Memorial Day.

He asked the Uganda Aids Commission to vet messages on HIV/Aids before they are run by the media, adding that some messages on HIV/Aids inadvertently encourage the spread of the virus.

“Despite First Lady’s efforts to realize HIV-free generation, Ugandans have turned a deaf ear up to now,” Fr Lokodo said.

He asked the Uganda Aids Commission to vet messages on HIV/Aids before they are run by the media, adding that some messages on HIV/Aids inadvertently encourage the spread of the virus.

Mr Roland Kaginda Mugume, the chairperson of the Parliamentary Committee on HIV/Aids, appealed to Ugandans to be faithful to their sexual partners to stop the spread of the virus.

Presently, about 600,000 people are on anti-retroviral drugs, but about 90 per cent of this treatment is donor-funded under the President’s Emergency Plan For Aids Relief and Global Fund.

The Prevention of Mother-to-Child Transmission of HIV programme is 100 per cent funded by the American government.
